I actually, believe it or not, got this advice from my mother! Isn’t she the coolest mom? And I agree with her that rebound works (although she probably had a different definition for it) but nevertheless what I would add to that is to ‘keep doing it til’ it works’ if it didn’t the first time around.
Breaking up sucks! It is like losing your comfy jacket during the cold weather and you have to find a new one that looks too new and has to be worn many times before it feels right again. But that is why REBOUND works! You keep finding rebound until you got the old one out of your system.
It took me almost 2 years to really get over my ex. During those times I did find other people to talk to and had fun with but I wasn’t completely over him. There were many instances where I felt like I was falling back into that emotional pit and reliving moments with my ex. That is when I was glad I had other people around to keep my mind off of him. Yes, my friends were around and are great support. My family are the loveliest but what happens when you get itch? See, sometime it’s just our body that is calling for some activity and our first resource is to look back at your past relationship. Sex with someone you love and care about is always good but as soon as you are having fun with other guys, it does make your fantasy changes its main character.
It works with almost all of my friends. To forget someone, you have to replace them with someone even better or at least just a good emotional attachment until you are back to doing things for yourself. Once your mind starts thinking about someone new, before you know it, your ex is just in the past.
