Crystal healing (or Lithotherapie in french) is not something new but ever since Miranda Kerr and Kim Kardashian started talking about it, it seems to have become the hype. But is it for real?

Well, since these energies cannot be scientifically explained (yet) we cannot validate the claim but to disregard something we don’t understand is just simple-minded. If we can harness electricity from water, why is it hard to believe that stones have the energy we can extract from as well? For sure it has something, something we have yet to learn.

If you want to get some witch crafty ideas, I’m here for it. But first, let us get some background. Gemstones were prehistorically adopted by the Ancient Sumerians, mentioned by Plato, to read minds and transmit thoughts. In Ancient Egypt, crystals are used as an amulet for protection from sickness and pain or death from wars. Ancient Greek adopted this method as well for protection. Many other cultures and beliefs also incorporated the use of crystals and semiprecious stones into their rituals such as Paganism, Hinduism, and indigenous cultures. This is why it is not surprising that this method is still present today but in a different language and form

Science adopted crystals into their studies in 1912 and called it crystallography and with the help of mathematics, mineralogy was born. It is clear that these stones have properties and structures that are unique and is rich in minerals. Are we getting anything from touching it and having it around? We don’t know, science is too focused on virus, cells, DNA, Rna, and space that there are almost no studies on crystal energy. But maybe it’s for the best, some things are best kept unknown.

Using crystals to heal sickness may be far-fetched and doubtful. But if you do believe in the fact that these stones hold energy and properties of something we have yet to know, then it is not hard to believe that it may have some sort of effect on us. Maybe not physically but in terms of energy and the flow of our body which could be considered as chemistry(?). We are not only made of matter but energy, air, and water, and all these are the basics of life. If your body’s energy is not balanced or doesn’t have a good flow then you might find yourself feeling off and unenergetic.

Hopefully, you get a sense of why people believe in crystal healing. But more importantly, we shouldn’t disregard things we don’t understand. Be mindful of what beliefs we indulge in our minds and always leave space for doubt and curiosity. It is where new ideas and creativity unfold. Not in the simple and mundane.
