Traveling on your own is a bit frightening at times when you are going to a place you’ve never been to before alone and where they might not speak the same language. Here are some great tips I use when I travel by myself:

Plan well
There are those people that are extremely adventurous and play it by ear but planning is always helpful. You might not stick to it but at least in times where you are lost, you can get out your list of things to do or go. This also goes for the next step of planning for your…

Accommodations
Couchsurfing might be ideal for one or two nights in a city and to meet new people but in cities like Bangkok, staying at a hostel, cheap hotels or Airbnb might be a better option. They are very affordable, clean and you can really relax after a long day of sightseeing.

Better safe than sorry
Some cities like Barcelona is known for pick pockets and they are experts. Even when you think you are careful they find ways to steal things. Never travel with too much stuff and this goes for every populated cities you visit. Tourist are easy target to robbers because they seem out of place and less careful. Losing money is annoying but not as pissed off when your camera with all the pictures you’ve taken is gone!

Research
I’ve heard of so many people saying “Oh, what a pity we didn’t get to go there/do this/ visit that”. Come on guys, you know your schedule since booking a flight, might as well see on the internet what is best to do/eat/visit there. I actually save a list of touristic places and nice restaurants for my friends whenever they plan to visit Bangkok, so ask a local or do some research.

Do the local things
Visiting the touristic places is a must but when that’s off the list you begin the local journey. These are the best things to do in a new city. Not only do you learn about different culture, mentality and daily activities, you appreciate your time more.
